Well hello there and welcome back to my blog! I know its been a while since I have made a post, but getting back from vacation can really set you back. Work has been crazy, jet lag has really hit me, and catching up with your day-to-day life can be busy! Sorry for the lack of new content this week, BUT I promise I have a ton of new fall looks coming your way, awesome fall and halloween activities coming to the blog, and of course my travel guides! As you all know I went away on a European cruise last week with my best friend Nicole. We honestly had a blast! We traveled with Norwegian Cruise Lines. Both Nicole and I have been on cruises before and because of our time constraint we thought the best way to travel to Europe and see so many places in the little time we had was to do a cruise! Boy were we correct! This cruise was amazing! We went to Kotor Montenegro, Corfu, Santorini, and Mykonos Greece, and Dubrovnik Croatia! We liked to call it our little express trip to Europe! We caught the ship from Venice, Italy wishing and hoping we would be able to grab a quick gelato at the Piazza San Marco, but hey, you can’t do everything!
Before we left for our trip I sat down and planned our whole itinerary for the week. We wanted to go prepared because like I said, we didn’t have that much time in each stop so we wanted to make sure we did the most we could.
Throughout the week I will be posting my travel guides to all the different destinations. Today I will be showing you Kotor, Wednesday I will be showing you the three islands in Greece, and Friday I will be revealing Croatia! Exciting stuff right? 😁
Alright, so our first stop was Kotor, Montenegro. Let me just start off by saying how beautiful this place is. Kotor is a village that is encased by mountains, and the most beautiful mountains of course. Once our boat docked I was absolutely breath taken. I had never seen such a beautiful landscape before.
Once we first got off the boat, we walked around the Town of Kotor. Its the cutest little town with so many different shops, restaurants, history churches and homes.
One of the items on our itinerary for the day was to climb up to Kotor’s castle of San Giovanni. The entire hike is 1,350 stairs to a height of 1,200 metres, phew, and let me tell you, it was a warm one that day which made the hike a little more interesting to say the least. They estimate the entire hike up the mountain to be about 1 hour or so, depending on how fast or slow you decide to complete the hike. There are two different pathways ways to climb the mountain. You can climb it at a straight shot up, or they have gradual winding roads on the other side that lead up to the top. We chose the direct, straight and steep root up. Why you ask? Mainly because that was the first route we discovered so we went with it.
The hike is a rough one, and can be very slippery or dangerous if your not careful. The hiking trail consisted of a gravel road on one side and very narrow stairs on the other side (as you see in the above picture of me). The stairs would only fit the width of one person, so they were mainly used for people to walk down them because walking down the rocks and dirt was too dangerous because of how steep the mountain was. Needless to say, just as any other hike would be, the way down was a lot more graceful than the way up. 😁
This hike was definitely worth it and probably one of the best hike’s I have ever done. Every so often we would just stop and look at the view. It was just beautiful and I suggest everyone put this little town of Kotor on your bucket list because it is beautiful, unique, and so full of history.
1. Grab a pair of runners and gym shorts (Many people did this hike in sandals and a dress… I don’t know how)
2. Carry a water bottle (There are no bathrooms or stores along the way and it gets really hot)
3. Take time to admire the view. Take your time with this hike, there is no rush to get to the top, everyone does. Take in the entire experience.
4. After the hike, grab a pizza in the town because a) you earned it and b) Kotor has some delicious pizza!
I hope you guys enjoyed this review! See you back on the blog soon 🙂
