This is the perfect snack if your having a salty craving. These soy beans make for a delicious and nutritious snack or even as an appetizer before dinner. Edamame contains high levels of protein, fiber, and carbohydrates. Edamame are soy beans which are naturally gluten-free and a great source of iron, calcium, and protein. Many studies prove that consuming edamame can decrease the risk of obesity and heart disease. While eating animal protein is good for you, consuming soy protein can actually help lower your levels of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and increase levels of HDL cholesterol (fat cholesterol). In only half a cup of shelled edamame it contains 120 calories, 9 grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein.
Tip for you girls out there: These magical soy beans contain calcium and magnesium which help to regulate blood sugar and prevent migraines, they also help lessen PMS symptoms.
This seems like all good stuff to me! lets get snacking!
Here is how I prepared my Edamame:
- Boil one packet of frozen Edamame for 10-12 minutes. Make sure to not over steam them or else they will come out really soft.
- Once they are all cooked place then in a bowl and sprinkle it will sesame seeds and add 1-2 teaspoons of soy sauce to taste. Remember, don’t use a lot of soy sauce as it can be loaded with sodium.
